Great Start Collaborative Family Coalition Meetings

The Great Start Collaborative Family Meetings are intended for parents and caregivers of children, prenatal through the 3rd grade.

This group works to increase parent leadership in our community and brings awareness about early childhood issues that affect our families.

Our Parent-led Strategies for the 2024/2025 are:

Outcome 2; Strategy 2: Promote GSC sponsored events and initiatives across the county, with emphasis on the more rural areas of the county. Activities to include: Family Coalition will identify which areas of the county to target their efforts, and will promote with flyer dissemination and information sharing in those communities.
Outcome 4; Strategy 2: Increase book access to ALL outlying communities in Hillsdale County. Activities to include: 1. Family Coalition parents will continue to steward Little Free Libraries in the county 2. Install a minimum of 2 additional Little Free Libraries in the county, targeting those outlying areas that do not yet have access to one locally. 3. Family Coalition will consider a community activity that highlights the Little Free Libraries and their locations (i.e. scavenger hunt, geo-caching site, etc.)

Our Parent-led Strategies for the 2023/2024 are:

Strategy 2: Develop a resource of fun winter family activities that promote learning and a connection to the community. Activities to include: 1. Research and compile a recommendation list to share with other families in Hillsdale County. 2. possibly have list resource published in local publication.
Strategy 2: Increase book access to ALL outlying communities in Hillsdale County. Activities to include: 1. Maintain Free Little Libraries across county by providing books and volunteering to monitor-book availability at each library site, install new Little Free Libraries in outlying areas. 2. discuss the possibility of a community activity that highlights the Little Free Libraries and their locations (i.e. scavenger hunt, geo-caching site, etc.)

Our Parent-led Strategies for the 2022/2023 are:

Intentional promotion of WIC and Project Fresh coupons to families at GSC sponsored events and in newsletter.
Maintain Free Little Libraries across county by providing books and volunteering to monitor-book availability at each library site.
